Smoke Detector Program

The Waukegan Fire Department has initiated an aggressive Smoke Alarm Program with the aid of a Federal Grant.

Illinois State Law requires that all residences in the state have working smoke alarms on all living/occupied levels of the home.

The Fire Department will provide, free of charge, one (1) Smoke Alarm in a owner occupied single (1) and/or two (2) family dwelling.

Participation requirements are as follows:

  1. Reside in Waukegan, Il.
  2. Allow the Fire Department to install the Smoke Alarm.
  3. Currently not have a Smoke Alarm.
  4. If a smoke detector is present, a battery will be provided free of charge if testing by the Fire Department finds that it needs one.

Please fill out a request at: Smoke Detector or Smoke Detector Battery Request or call the Waukegan Fire Department at: 847-249-5410.
