The Waukegan Fire Department Bike Medic Program is
established for the purpose of providing the citizens and visitors
of the City of Waukegan with enhanced emergency medical services.
Member selection is still forthcoming, however members will be
required to be certified as a paramedic for a few years (2 is the
initial thought) prior to applying for membership on the team. Also,
a bicycle safety class is being arranged with an instructor from the
Waukegan Police Department Bicycle Patrol unit.

The program was created last year to assist at special
events to provide a more rapid deployment of emergency medical services
in crowded/congested areas. Currently the Waukegan Fire Department Bike
Medic Unit consists of 2 bicycles, which are equipped with a full
compliment of ALS supplies capable of handling any type of emergency
call.
