WELCOME Waukegan Fire Department Applications Available
The City of Waukegan has a population of 92,046 and is situated midway between Chicago and Milwaukee on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. Waukegan is a community rich in history and blessed with a wide diversity of people who are proud to call Waukegan home. The Waukegan Fire Department has a proud history of serving the community for over 160 years and offers their employees opportunities to serve the populist in all facets of fire and emergency services. The department mans five (5) stations and operates five (MICU) ambulances. The department answers more than 10,000 calls a year with a sworn staff of 110 officers and 4 staff personnel. The Waukegan Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for firefighter / paramedic testing to establish a hiring list for the Waukegan Fire Department. Starting salary is $52,583, increasing to $60,769 after probation at one year. Top salary is currently $83,310. Prior paramedic service and fire fighting experience has a starting salary of $56,124. Must reside in Illinois (north of I80) prior to completion of 12 month probation period. Applicant must:
Applications are available at the Waukegan’s City Clerk’s office, Waukegan City Hall, 100 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Waukegan, IL 60085 between the hours of 8:00a.m. and 4:30p.m., beginning April 9, 2012 through April 27, 2012. Applications can also be downloaded on the web at www.waukeganfire.com. Applications must be filed in person by 4:30p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012. The written examination will be held at the Waukegan High School, 2325 Brookside, May 12, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. sharp. Applicants must have proper ID (Driver’s License or State ID) and a valid CPAT card when registering to take the test this day.
