Your Waukegan Fire Department hopes your spring and summer seasons were enjoyable and healthy. We are entering the fall and winter seasons with new health and safety issues which are arising daily in our community.

The Flu season is expected to create health issues in communities throughout the world.  Rest assured that we at the Fire Department will strive to take care of our community no matter what the issues may be.

Please take the necessary precautions to stay healthy and wash your hands numerous times a day. Please be a good neighbor, cover your coughs and if you’re feeling ill with flu symptoms, stay home and follow you medical doctor’s recommendations for recovery. Follow the government’s recommendations and get your Flu Shot.

Children have returned to school, and their safety is of the upmost importance to your emergency responders as a majority of the children are now walking to schools as Waukegan District 60 Schools has returned to the concept of “Neighborhood Schools”.  

The City of Waukegan is a no burning City.  Leaves should be raked and placed curbside in yard waste refuse bags for pick up or if raked to the curb line, leave your leaves on the right of way, not in the street as storm drains will become plugged and possibly cause flooding in the streets and your home should we realize heavy rain in the fall.

The holidays; which are right around the corner and old man winter will begin to drop the “White Stuff “on the ground. Remember that the children are walking and sidewalks need to be maintained clear of ice and snow, keeping the children out of the street  and protecting them from injury while not encouraging them to walk in the street among passing vehicle in less than desirable lighting conditions as the amount of daylight becomes less. Please operate snow blowers in a safe and responsible manner and when shoveling, if you might experience chest pain, STOP, and CALL 9-1-1.

The Waukegan Firefighters wish to remind you to stay fire safe, prepare an exit plan with your children in case of an emergency in the home, and remember to select a meeting place.

Our value to the community is measured by the service we provide daily.  Your firefighters and paramedics provide the best emergency and medical services possible (over 10,000 calls a year) to the citizens of Waukegan each and every minute of the day, 365 days of the year.

Remember to check your Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Alarms today. Replace the batteries for your peace of mind.
